Laina is Elle / Elle is Laina
As many of you know I am two people. Actually, I am many people but for the sake of this blog I am just two. The two people I want to focus on today is Laina the business woman, academic, and all around conservative and Elle my fun-loving alter ego who writes fiction, is still smart, but not as conservative. I have for a while now been trying to keep separation and be different people to…well…different people.
For what, you may be asking. Initially it was because of my own insecurities I felt I should keep my personalities separate. Although, I am not sure exactly what I thought would happen. A client with my HR consulting firm might drop me because I write women’s fiction, listen to rap music, and sometimes drink too much wine? Or people might not want to buy my book because I am a HR consultant and a college professor? I think not. This thought process is probably more insulting to those around me for thinking them so narrow minded.
So I need your opinion, faithful audience. Do I merge my personalities into one being completely transparent to all people about all things? Or do I continue to hide under a self-imposed anonymity?
Please…give me your thoughts. I want to be free!!!!

I imagine it’s a little like putting on purple shades when you want to see purple. You still see the complete image–the shapes and content remain unchanged, and yet everything is purple. Allow certain environments and demands to highlight different shades of your personality(ies).

Go for being free! I think those following your blog will find it refreshing and will themselves dare to be more liberated as writers and players on the corporate stage.
